We thought they were old enough to handle sightseeing and a bit of an educational vacation rather than the usual theme parks or beaches. So, Washington D.C. is was.

One of our first stops was to the White House. Try as we might, we kept ringing but no one would answer.

While the residents wouldn't let us in, the head of the house was nice enough to pose with the kids.

One thing you quickly realize is that dissent that would cause imprisonment (or worse) in many countries isn't just tolerated but allowed in front of the nation's house.

It wasn't all about the protesting. The capital has many incredible museums and architecture. Surely more than we were able to see in four days.

The most moving exhibits were at the National Haulocaust Museum.

It was an incredible time whose days passed too, too quickly. There was still a little time on the last day for souvenir shopping and the requisite t-shirts.

We did enjoy our time and my hope is that the kids develop the same appreciation for the city as I have over the years.

Really great stuff!

D.C. is such a great place to visit, now all I wish is that I remember to bring only one camera, maybe two lenses and a flash and enjoy it more the next time I go.

Thanks very much for looking and posting. Funny, while I brought one body, I had four lenses but used only two (DA* 16-50 f/2.8 and DA* 50-135 f/2.8) and shot the shorter of the two 90% of the time. We probably do spend too much time on focusing on what we think we should bring versus what we'll use and are most comfortable with.

John

The last photo of the Holocaust Museum with the slight blur of the child stilled my breath and gave me chills. I live very close to DC, but it took your photos to remind me to see the beauty in this area. Thank you.

Thank you for posting. There is so much to see in this area. I have lived here most of my live and I still haven't seen it all.

Just a side note.... I wonder what the hunger strike people are doing with a container of salt??

Because the body needs salt to stay hydrated, too much or too little and you die.
