this setup takes pictures automagically at parties detecting smiles and uses the rules of thirds.

Looks like it could be fun, but ...

I can see lots of potential questions relating to speed, accuracy, etc.

I am amused. I also think its a pretty cool concept.

Can also be used as a security camera in a store. If someone is robbing you, give them your best smile!

I have one of those folding optics cameras (although not a Sony). They are really only useful in very good light. In other words, never during a party.

Cool concept though, from a nerd standpoint.

wow I am reading further...

"The unit can rotate into portrait mode. Upon detecting a side shadow it will automatically order a flash bracket for itself. It is then programmed to post a "Expecting Mr UPS man...woo!' thread on your favorite (user input) photography forum. "

*SIGH* might as well sell off my gear now!

This actually sounds like a great little tool for an automatic "photo booth" at a wedding or party. Curtain off an area, set up an optically triggered flash and let this thing go to work. I like it.

It's only a matter of time before the Wedding Version comes out, on a rolling tripod that moves itself around the event...

Interesting first step, but I hear they're working on a dSLR version that not only has much better light sensitivity, but also automatically connects to B&H on the net and orders new lenses for itself. :lol3

What Richard forgot to mention, is the DSLR version also comes with money to purchase the lenses for itself!

Interesting concept, but I agree, would not work well in most parties... I like the photobooth idea.
