What Female Photographers Wear at a Wedding

This may seem like a very dumb question, but I was wondering what most female photographers wear to a wedding. A skirt or dress may seem like it suits the occasion, but having no pockets (at least for me) gets a bit sticky. What do you wear when you're working a wedding?

I wear dress pants (usually black or dark grey) WITH pockets. I love having my extra batteries bulging out of my pockets and readily accessible. For my top I wear a very nice blouse and then obviously I put makeup on to finish off the look.

I wear usually long black pants, black shirt, COMFORTABLE shoes.

... Unless ... it's a casual beach wedding. Then I might go with tan colors, but nothing that will draw any attention.

I also usually wear black pants and a dark or black shirt. I try to stick with 100% cotton fabrics, and go for business casual, as when you are wearing dark colors, you're going to sweat even more and want your skin to breathe. Comfortable shoes are an absolute must. I would not wear a skirt or dress, as I am usually on the ground, standing on chairs, step ladders, etc. You can't be afraid to get a little dirty, either!

I'm also a black fan. For weddings I choose not to wear any capri's or shorts. Black business casual such as a black polo is sometimes worn but typically a black button up shirt made of breatable fabric, especially for those hot outdoor days. Based on all the kneeling and standing on a step ladder or chair I'd shy away from a skirt just for ease of movement.

:agreeProfessional Business look not too tight. Complete the look. Black pants, black comfortable shoes, with a black polo or a long sleeve shirt that I have my business name sewn on the right side above the pocket area. Low key jewelery, make-up and hairstyle. Nothing that is going to draw anymore attention to me. If I have an assistant, they will wear the same thing.

Yeah Black slacks - dressy but comfortable top - comfy shoes with dr scholls! also shoot with my shootsack so I don't need to worry about having pockets.

Much like everyone else--black pants and a business casual top--blouse or light jacket. I personally like the Privo brand for my shoes--they're an offshoot of Clarks, I think. Very lightweight, comfortable, and my favorite--silent! You don't want to be click-clacking across the church floor.

Black skirt, comfy but dressy black top, and shoes similar to above, my brand is Sketchers. I wonder if the skirt thing is regional? Most females I see here in NY, at least at city shoots, are not in pants. But maybe I'm only seeing a small minority at venues where we cross paths on the same day. "Dress like a guest" is good advice, and at most of my weddings, it means no pants. I manage to get the low and high shots as long as the skirt is not too short or long to trip on...Standing on chairs at receptions is no problem either.

My nephew got married in Cal last weekend. Nice, formal wedding. His WP wore white capris, flip flops, and a tank top. It was a bit shocking to me. But I just figured it must be regional.

I have seen several wearing tux pants and shirts with vests.....yup these were lady photogs......most just wear nice bus. casual in dark colors.....some i have seen went all bright and wild and I figured it was a phase just to get noticed...............

I wear black slacks and blouse (like everyone) but do my best to dress on par with the guests. But I would never consider a dress or skirt. I spend way to much time on the floor to be considered ladylike in one.

Shoes... I would love to have a bit of pizaz with my shoes to offset the black. I am still searching for the perfect pair. I have tried Danskos and Clarks and Naots. I thought I had my perfect pair (the Naots) until they started squeaking. That'll kill the mood. Still searching.

I wear Chico's or Coldwater Creek Travel Knits or Softwear/VikkiVi. They are comfortable, washable and look good. If I am shooting at a very high end place, I have a sweatercoat with a really nice knit pant and matching shell. And I use a shootsac and Camera Slingers.
