Here's my problem, when I look at my raw files in bridge (CS4) they look good. White balance, brightness all ok. When I open them in ACRaw they look dreadful! I try the auto or default option, but none of them look anything like the bridge version.
So what I want to know is simply how to get the files into ACRaw/CS4 looking as good as they do in bridge? Please.

Dave, this is a bit weird... IMHO the only way RAW files can look different form their ACR versions is if the built-in jpeg preview or Bridge cached preview is different. In any case it's the ACR look which is "real". You can bring all in sync by rebuilding the Bridge cache, but that would simply make them all look "dreadful"...
To start with a clean slate, open the folder in Windows Explorer and delete/rename athe "sidecar" .XMP file, then open image again in ACR. If it doesn't help - it means your raw file is not ideal and you need to tweak it using all the nice and numerous ACR sliders :dunno

This happens to me in Bridge. If looking at a pic I already converted to JPEG from RAW, when bridge sees the revamped pic, it adds what I did already, to the preview making the preview look horrible and washed out, even if re-opening it in Bridge (as a RAW file). If I just OPEN the file....it looks fine which means it's stored fine, it's just the preview that's screwing up.
It has to be something in the defaults of the the other program and maybe it too, is doubling the effect of whatever you did in Photoshop in the preview?

I'm sick of bridge...
....went back to BreezeBrowser Pro (http://www.breezesys.com/BreezeBrowser/index.htm) and I am happy again.

It's possible that something went wrong during the caching process..
Simply tell Bridge to ditch the cache and rebuild it. To avoid long waits try it on a couple of images first: copy a couple to a new folder (via Bridge, it's important) and tell Bridge to rebuild the cache for it. See how it goes.

Have you checked your RAW defaults? You might be seeing a change you made on a previous file, and accidentally saved it as a default...
