Taken with the 500/4L and (cheapo) 1.4x Tamron. Not sure I am completely happy with this combo, but here a few of the many shots I took a few days back in late afternoon sun. Cheers

gene,

very nice, as usual. have you gone to smaller birds for the challengehttp://dgrin.com/images/smilies/eek7.gif, or do you still shoot alot of raptors?

TC combo looks good to me! ever use it on the 400 5.6? if so how was it?

Wow, you do fantastic bird shots, you are truely a master at Birding ...... I'd love to have a go at Bird Photography and by the end of the year I will get myself a Canon 400mm.....you continue to inspire me along with Harry and others on the forum.......thank you for sharing your amazing images.

Outstanding Gene. :clap the shots look very sharp. How did your lens work with the Tamron TC? Did it impact on the AF speed?

-jeffHi Jeff,

Thanks,
I am from the midwest. I shoot what is available at the time :rofl Seems they come through in waves. Right now the time is right for fledglings. Autumns is the best time here for hawks, and winter for eagles.

Well, the contrast on this TC leaves a bit to be desired. I haven't used it on the 400 except once.

Cheers,
Gene

Hi Harry,

Loss of contrast with the TC and a tendency to bleach out light colors so I had to set EC -1/2 relative to without a TC.

Thanks Alan,

Across a small canal. Maybe 25'-30'. I am not good at judging distance though.
