small waterfall - 3 imgs

A friend of mine dropped into town Monday night on his way to Knoxville via I-40 west. He asked if there were any easy waterfalls to hit on his way, so I took him to this 25' waterfall off of exit 7 in the Harmon Den area of the Pisgah National Forest. It doesn't have a name, but is on Little Falls Branch. We got there about 8am. The sun was still behind a mountain and it was somewhat overcast, so the lighting was a bit on the dark side. I used a polarizing filter on all the shots.

This is a nice little waterfall, but there's a lot of distracting forest debris around the base. I shot this angle trying to hide the base - not sure if I like the tree in the shot.

Then I decided to zoom in a bit and eliminate the tree and bottom section of the falls.

I then decided to try some other angles, so I moved to the right to include some branches over the water flow. This one looked good to me in the LCD, but I wasn't crazy about it when I got back to the computer. Here it is anyway.

I definitely like #2 and #3 better than #1. I find that when I take waterfall pictures, it almost always looks like the water is going sideways. On the bottom of #1, it did that to you also. #2 and #3 are beautifully executed. The only waterfalls we have around here is what comes out of a spigot (desert).
Question for you Rich. I'm going to be in central Tennessee the week of July 4th. Are there any good waterfalls that you know of in that area. I'll be traveling a bit to get to Civil War battlefield sites and would love to shoot some other things as well. Your waterfalls inspire me to try them again, just need some to shoot. If you're not familiar with that area, I will ask family that lives there.

Hey Chris - thanks for your comments. I see what you are saying about #1 - I was too busy looking at the tree to notice :dunno

If you are making it as far as the Cumberland Plateau area of Tenn, you are in luck. It's about half way between Nashville and Knoxville. Look for Cookeville on I-40 and you are in the area. Check here for more info

I really like photo #2 the best. #3 is very interesting and I like to look for different angles myself when shooting waterfalls but in this case the close, straight shot works the best.

I really like your site!! Next time I'm in the south I'll have to contact you for photo ideas/locations.
