Hi,

I've been lurking for a while while getting my site together. I recently purchased a Tamron 180mm 3.5 macro lens and I had my first outing with it over the weekend, so I figured it was a good time to post. I'm not quite at 1:1 yet, but a macro rail is on the way!

Thanks for looking!

Good series of shots, only criticism would be the subjects are a bit centred- try giving them more room in the frame in the direction they are looking.

Thanks for the advice, Brian. I'll definitely keep that in mind for the next round. And yes, Kelley - this lens is big fun!

Thanks, Ara. I read some of your blog. You're living the life many of us would choose if we only had the balls. Please stay away from Macro until you're bored and "settled" (if ever). You can find bugs anywhere, and your journey deserves documentation. I'll be sure and check in with your blog from time to time so I can wander vicariously throughout the NW. BTW.. your dog is awesome!

Take care

Well a big hello back to you too JPC :wave

If this is an example of what you are producing as a Beginner,
then you are well on the way to an "A+" for being a fast learner :D

Centering is a bad habit that many folks fall into the habit of doing.
This is a habit you need to break very early in your learning,
and is often easier said than done.

These shots are beautiful JP :clap
thanks for sharing, and no more hiding okay :thumb

Thanks for the welcome, Skippy. I think the tendency to center when shooting macro is the result of shallow DOF and the amount of the frame that is occupied by the subject. I do try to apply the "rule-of-thirds" principle whenever possible, but with macro photography, the subject is usually a large portion of the frame and the remaining elements are blurred into oblivion or just non-existent. It's just a different ball game all together. I'm looking forward to the challenge!
