If Harry can have his egret fest, why not a Dragon fest? There seem to be alot more dragons around here than egrets. These guys were very cooperative today. They sat nicely on their perchs for quite a while, leaving only briefly to catch a few bugs. They didn't seem to mind me staring at them from only a few inches away.

These shots are just first rate Thomas. Did you use the LSll on all these as well? Did you get the dark background by using a black background sheet or was it just that much darker than the flashed foreground?
These are superb - nice sharp details against the black background is a joy to look at.

Thanks all. All done with LS II, black background is because of aperture & shutter speed. Taken in late afternoon with fairly low ambient light. Thanks for looking.

Wonderful shots Thomas esp the pic#1
I'm quite jealous- still waiting for the dragon fly season to start here- I've only seen one- lots of damsel flies though.

especially #1. I don't see many dragons around here, too dry and hot I guess:dunno. I do like looking at them here though. I can't add much to what has already been said except :clap .
Thanks for sharing,

Though yours blow mine away. This bugger has been buzzing around all day. Heavily cropped as I didn't have the right lens for it and I generally am not a fan of bugs.

The colors really work with that shot. All those pastels really compliment one another. I was never really into bugs either, but my son is a real bug fanatic, so its something we can enjoy together. Thanks for sharing.

Great shot J&H. Welcome to Dragonfest 2005. I really like the abstract feel to the shot. Whose idea? Jekyll or Hydes?

Great shot J&H. Welcome to Dragonfest 2005. I really like the abstract feel to the shot. Whose idea? Jekyll or Hydes?J: Thanks Thomas. I think this was the Dragon's idea. I found him on the forest floor and he seemed to be struggling a bit.
H: I placed a twig in front of him and he climbed on. I stuck the twig between my knees and shot from above, a distance of about 8 inches. Talk about lucky, eh?

H: And the detail in the second is very good.

J: Certainly are!
H: I just love the pose in this one, and the plant is beautiful.
J: It would be ideal if the entire leaf on the right was visible, cuz this makes a super composition.
H: Good eye.
