View Full Version : RSS/ATOM hacks?

Is there any wiggle room on the RSS capabilities of the feed.mg page? Is there a list of querystring variables that I can use to specify what I want in the RSS/atom feed?

If I do start pulling non-standard feeds (if such a thing is possible) do I need to apply for an API key or get special permission?

I've been meaning to post a page describing the various feeds available (I think we're above 10 now), and what options there are.

I'll see if I can find some time to get around to it. Thanks for bringing it up!

Is the documentation up-to-date now? Any undocumented RSS feeds I can fiddle with? I'm just trying to assess all my options.

Thanks,
dhl

Have you had a chance to post that, along with all of the variables available for each feed?

Thanks!

Has this been posted somewhere? I would like to know the various options.

It would be great to have a list of the options. Right now what I'd really like is one that lets me choose a different size for the images in the feed. Does that exist??? Anyone know?

I *think* you can plug custom image sizes in, in addition the standard -S, -M, -L sizes.

So, its been over a year and half... managed to squeeze in time to tell us what RSS feeds are actually available? :D

I see the basic ones in the docs (the one sentence descriptions), scoured the forums, and looked everywhere else I can think of and can't find anything describing the available feeds in any detail or info on creating a custom feed (which would be extremely useful for 3rd part apps like SlideShowPro (http://slideshowpro.net) and Monoslideshow (http://monoslideshow.com)).

knight777,

Here's a few examples that I have quickly thrown together.

Cheers,

David

Thomas,

Try using http://api.smugmug.com with the rest of the info above, that now includes the crossdomain.xml file which is need for using feeds with site like slideshowpro etc.

Thanks mate for pointing the way.

Will see what one can cook up for Monoslideshow, which requires XML.

I think SlideShowPro can parse RSS already as is?

DonOne thing I noted (and was disappointed about) is that it does not seem to be possible to "construct" a multi-keyword feed. If you browse for one keyword, you get feed links automatically. If you add a keyword, the feed links disappear; to check, I constructed a feed URI using the same syntax for the "data" as used for a multi-keyword page URI. The result is nothing at all (not an empty feed, not an error message, just nothing).

That also implies that using a feed is absolutely no substitute for the lack of API keyword support. :cry (Which is the major reason I'm so hesitant in actually signing up - your only excuse is your competitors don't have API support for that either...) So I'm facing building some really ugly workarounds.

I like the recent galleries feed, however I'd like to restrict it to a few categories, not all... Is there any way to do this? (Other than password protecting or hiding galleries?)

My reasoning for this is that I use SmugMug for both personal and professional use... I'd like to be able to offer a more focussed feed of recent gallery updates - one which only includes categories I specify...

For example... I have the following categories which tend to contain more work related / generally interesting content: Porfolio, Travel, Music, Other. And then I have a few which do not, such as: Family, Friends. So I'd like to offer a feed which excludes any updates to galleries in the latter categories... Or more precisely, only inlcudes updates to galleries in the former categories... Make sense?
