Photos missing from display, using custom sizes

I use custom sizes extensively on my site, and they are misbehaving again.

I've seen this behavior using both my smug URL http://denise.smugmug.com and my custom URL http://www.denisegoldberg.com, on both IE7 and Firefox 3.0.11. It appears to happen more often on my custom domain than on my smug url, but I have seen the problem using both URLs.

It used to be when the image wasn't found I saw a broken smuggy. Now I'm just seeing an "x" in a box on IE or the alt text value on Firefox.

I just saw something similar on my site. One gallery wouldn't load at all except for navigation, but a bit refreshing and it came back.

What are custom size images? Any non-original-sized image?

They are images with sizes like -600x600.jpg, instead of -M.jpg. I use them all of the time...

It was pretty consistent when it was happening, but it appears to be behaving properly again.

Hopefully it won't happen again; I'll let you know if it does.
