I got inspired by Dan's shot and thought I'd get down to business and play with Photomatix 3.2. This latest version is a pleasure to use. The older version I had was OK, but this interface is so much more user-friendly.
But what I'm not quite sure about is when to use Details Enhancer versus Tonal Compression. I just winged it on these. :dunno
Thanks for looking.

I like "Details Enhancer" :)
I need to get a copy of PhotoMatix Pro (still using the free version). I promised myself that I would get it as soon as I make my first SmugMug sale. :)
Good Job! I like #1 and #3. Too much shadow in #2.

All are very nice and I would not have even known that you used Photomatix if you had not told me. COOL!!

Thanks for looking, everyone!
Yeah, there is a lot of shadow in #2. :nod I wanted to test the limits of what my camera and Photomatix would do in a contrast situation such as that. Looking at these on a darker monitor I'm still pretty pleased with how much detail I can see in the shadows. I guess I have to give this latest version of Photomatix a :thumb:thumb. :D

Nice series, no artifacts at all from the HDR software. I pretty much always use Details Enhancer on Photomatix Pro.
They are pretty...looks like they came from a storybook. I like the more natural look, not overly done! :thumb

Do you ever use the Tonal Compression?

Thanks!
"Overcooked" is OK and I've had some success with it, but like you, I prefer a more natural look.

I stick with Details Enhancer. I feel it gives me more control.
