This topic may have been covered elsewhere, though if it is than it is burried within a thread with a misleading title.

Talking with a few other folks who have looked into Smugmug, one of the biggest reasons that they didnt go beyond the trial period was the difficulty in putting together a seamless homepage. I am having the same thoughts.

The VAST majority of photography websites on the web begin with a simple homepage that includes a banner, a large photograph across the majority of the screen that depicts an example of the photographs work, and a tool bar. However, I have yet to find an option in the numerous custimazation windows that allows me to create something simple like this.

Moving beyond the homepage, it all makes since the way the customization program works ....

Am I missing something here?

You could start with the easy customizer for the basics.

There is a straightforward tutorial on adding a banner, a navbar, and a homepage slideshow at http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/2160039.

There are links to a lot of information in the >>> CUSTOMIZATION: Start Here <<< (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=52812) sticky at the head of this forum.

You're not really missing anything. I'm going through this right now. Some of it is not intuitive at first, and depending on how much customization you want to do will determine how knowledgeable you need to be - CSS and JavaScript specifically.

The basic customizations can get you pretty far, so I would start there and see if that can get you somewhere close to where you want to be.
