This is a recent trip with my kids , 19 and 16 to bring my father's Cadillac Deville from Punta Gorda Florida to Massachusetts. My father passed away in April and wanted me to have his car. I'm sure he was with us on this trip making sure we took good care of "The Coupe De Lou"

Here is "The Coupe De Louuuu" where it has been sitting for the last 6 months. I wounder if it would start. Put the key in turned it on and the 300 horse power V8 Northstar engine came to life ! More about the 300HP later.

<strong>This is our favorite tree in Punta Gorda. It is a Banyon tree and Tyler and Cody have been climbing around this since they were little.</strong>

<span style="font-weight: bold;">We stopped at The Main St Diner in sometown in Florida for breakfast. Turned out to be very good. A REAL egg on the sandwich. Tyler had homemade pancakes with REAL log cabin syrup. I haven't seen that for a while. The diner also had 2 bullet holes in the front window.</span>

<strong>This car FLYS !!! 300HP V8 I have to keep it on cruse control or I get up to over 90mph without knowing it. I don't know how they do it but there is NO, NONE, NADA wind noise when you are driving. I'm liking this car.

We wanted to go to <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Tybee</span> Island on the coast but the road in and out was flooding due to <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">unusually</span> high tides. A couple at the bed and breakfast said it took them 6 hours to get off the day before. It's only 30 minutes from Savannah. It was in the papers and news, they said due to the moon and other conditions it was the highest tide they have ever had.

<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;"><strong>So we stopped for lunch in Florence SC. Came out and tried to start The Coupe De Lou. Click, click, click. Nothing. Before we left Florida I had the oil changed, checked the tires and all the other fluids. Everything was fine. It even started after sitting for more than 6 months so it couldn't be the battery.

IT WAS THE BATTERY !

We called AAA and the dude was there pretty quick. He jumped it, started right up. He put a gizmo on it to test it and found that it had a bad cell. Then he tells me he doesn't have the correct battery and we shouldn't shut it off till we get home. I said "did you notice we are from Massachusetts ?

But as luck, or was it, would have it there was a Cadillac dealer 2 miles from here. We followed him to the dealer and had the battery replaced, handed over $255 dollars to the smiling service guy and were on our way 3 hrs later.

Come to find out it is some kind of special battery that need to lay on it's side and is under the rear seat. Oh well it should last a while now.

<span style="font-weight: bold;">This is the first trip that I have taken with all this technology. </span><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Netbook</span><span style="font-weight: bold;"> computer, cell phone, GPS, 2 digital cameras, 8gig SD cards, 4 gig SD cards, power cords and adapters to charge everything up. </span>

<span style="font-weight: bold;">I have been able to look at maps on line, check the weather, check traffic, do the blog, keep in touch with </span><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">texting</span><span style="font-weight: bold;"> , multimedia messages, plan routes with different times, plan to avoid highways, toll roads, interstate highways. I look for places with free </span><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">wifi</span><span style="font-weight: bold;"> so I can keep connected. </span>

<span style="font-weight: bold;">I have found , motels, hotels, Bed and Breakfast, car dealers, restaurants, Starbucks all with the </span>Internet<span style="font-weight: bold;"> or the GPS.</span>

<span style="font-weight: bold;">It sounds like a lot to grasp but the hardware is small light weight and doesn't take up a lot of space. It has also allowed me to bring all of you on this trip with me.</span>

<span style="font-weight: bold;">I still like my paper maps though. I won't </span>give<span style="font-weight: bold;"> them up. I think they still give me a better sense of scale and where I am. I hope these maps never </span>disappear<span style="font-weight: bold;">. At the end of the day I still enjoy </span>sitting<span style="font-weight: bold;"> with my folding map looking where I will wander tomorrow.</span>

The Coupe De Lou brought us 1700 miles, <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">through</span> Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia,
Maryland, <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Pennsylvania</span>, New <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Jersey</span>, New York, <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Connecticut</span> and Massachusetts.

WOW 12 states.

Tyler calculated <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">that's</span> 24 % of the country.

what a fun trip..the food looks so yummy.

It was a great trip !!

I feel that the food is part of the trip. I like to take the extra time to find a local place and take time to eat and enjoy. Most of the time the food is pretty good, sometimes it's not , but that is part of the adventure.

My kids are funny they have never liked Macdonald's or BK. We used to try an occasional Subway but they have seemed to go downhill recently.

This trip really gave them the taste for a "no plan" type of trip.
