Flying Lessons

I don't know if I am through with this, but decided the heck with it, would put it up. I have to upload another card.

I could not figure out what was going on at Magnolia Gardens today, then I realized that all the parents were trying to teach their "children" to fly. And they were quite loud about it, too. I really enjoyed it today, the babies are growing into good looking adolescents.

This is either too dark, or not, the other birds, one in lower left and two on left top, they are either distracting, or not.

However, I shot early enough to keep the ISO low, kept the f stop to where I had a DOF problem, etc. And I shot RAW, so any problems, I can fix them.

i like uncle fester there, in the lower left corner, stone faced staring at the viewer - i call this a bonus, something you find after you've seen the main action or emphasis in the shot - nice one ginger!

Thanks, Musky Dude, I am still not totally happy with it. All total, I would say it is my shot of the day, Night Heron and all, I wanted the egrets........and I really like this shot.

I am thinking of putting it on that Critique thing, but I have a specific style, so I am a bit confused, I want to improve it in my style, not someone else's.

I don't think I will be shooting for a few days, am very sore, need to get more Celebrex, the medicine of choice for most arthritis sufferers. In the meantime, I think I will wait to go back out until I can stand up again. Straight, I mean.

Going earlier in the day, I am not as afraid by myself. In a week or so, I think the place will be almost empty.

Am going to work these shots today up slowly. I am really too tired tonight to do anything justice. I think that is why I am not happy with that shot, yet.

Greaper, I cannot even show with my camera, anymore, how exciting it is to see these birds, not only grow, but interact so completely. I always thought a bird was a bird was a bird........kind of nice, but not very interesting. I was sooooo wrong.

I just put up, right under the first one, a second version of the same shot. The second version has had very little done to it, a bit of highlight darkening, a tad of curves, I felt compelled to give saturation a nod and a little USM. Somewhere I dodged a bit on a wing, and burned a bit, but just a tad.

I thought that maybe since I wasn't happy with my "worked on" version, that I would try the less is more approach???? I didn't crop it at all either. That does leave a lot of green spaces, but I think I might like the design of lights and darks in the green.

If anyone has an opinion on this and wants to share.

I put up that avatar to show how wiped out I was after we got lost in the woods.............with that backpack on and all. I just can't get those avatars to look bad enough, either. My hair was dripping, it was even worse than it looks. I am going to work up our "lost" hours, too. This week sometime.

OK, I put a third one up, a bit darker. It bothers me, too. I never do this to you all, I don't think. Maybe I will wake up in the morning and know right off.
