Hello friends!

Today I felt like doin' a little experiment! On a Swedish photo forum that I'm a member of, weird, pretentious pictures that you need to be either a junky or Einstein to "understand" seem to get most appreciation. I often find myself liking them too, although I can't "get them". So, I got curious: Do you need to "understand" this kind of photography to practise it?
The other day, one of my son's Gold Fishes died and I got an idea for a "weird, pretentious picture". *Hahaha* I've just posted it some 5 minutes ago, and I've already got one "WOWWOWWOW-this-is-genious"-kind of reply! :D
I have no idea what this picture mean, do you? :rofl *ROFL*

Stay Tuned / Matty

Cool shot. I like it. I'm not usually a big fan of selective color, but it really works on this one.

It makes me feel sad.

The picture makes me feel sad.

I dunno if that was the point, but it is so final, IMO.

The selective color gives it that *Wham* kinda like an abrupt stop, you know?

At first glance, I like it. At a second glance, I still like it. I'm not a fan of selective color, but this works, as mentioned above.

What I see in the photo:
With the hands clasped like that, it looks like the person is giving thanks to the bounty he's about to receive. I'm not being facetious here. Giving thanks was what we do have instead of being mad about those thing we don't have.

Just my first impressions. What's nice about these types of photos is that they can be interpreted differently be different people and it works. Now, if you had a title, then we might know what this shot means to you.

Thanks for sharing the story and shot,
Chris

looks like someone who needs fishing lessons :D :rofl

But, seriously...

No, I don't think one needs to *get* this type of shot to appreciate it. Interesting subject, composition, and execution (there's that word again). I really like the post processing and the selective color.

It would make a great challenge shot. Not sure what challenge, but it would probably be a winner.

good one Matty :thumb

You know, I'm not all that keen on selective color eighter, but this one sorta required it. :):

.... I had no point. I had a dead gold fish and I figured I could "use it" for a "weird photo" of some kind before flushing it. *Haha* But if it makes you feel sad, then I'm happy - not to make you sad, but because I've composed an image that evokes emotions. That's cool! :):

Yes, you are right about different interpretations. Interesting - I took the picture, I even posed on it, using the self-timer. *Haha* Yet, when I look at it, it makes me curious and I'm trying to interpret it myself. What is it trying to tell me? Hey! If someone knows, it should be me! :rolleyes

Could it be that the guy bought the fish for his son on his birthday, although he lost his job and got depts over his shoulders, and they don't even have food for the day. So, when the fish died, instead of flushing it, to make the investment a little more worthwhile, he had himself a small but nourishing supper. :scratch

Or something..... (ps: just made it up!!!)

Hehe! Yes! But one the other hand - if you go fishing in sweden, and return with a gold fish for dinner - then you're one hell of a fisherman! *Haha*

Hmm.... now when you meantion it! I read about a challenge in a photo magazine, I think it was "Practical Photography". The theme was "Feed Your Imagination". Should I give it a go? :rofl

Hey Matty - I like it from an artistic standpoint. It seems to have some real drama there. Very creative. It actually leaves me feeling confused about how I should feel. I'm certainly no art expert, but sometimes I think art really shouldn't be clear-cut. This is a good example of that theory. :thumb

Seriously, the pic makes even *more* sense in the context of that challenge theme :thumb
