This is the very first time I have taken shots at a motor rally so I really would appreciate plenty of c and c. I was using my 40D with a 17-55 2.8 lens. Manual,at 2.8 ISO 400 as it was quite dull. Believe me the dust and the stour was unbelievable and after a two hour period my camera, lens and myself was covered in dust. Would this harm my camera and lens? I would love to attend other rallies but I certainly will decline if it is going to harm my gear.

We don't see much in the way of rally cars. These are a welcome sight :thumb

Love to see some panning and a little slower shutter speed.

Thanks for looking and replying. Yeah I am sure you are right Ian but believe me for a first time everything was happening so damned fast and it was so dirty I think I was taking pot luck with the little knowledge I have. I now have had a wee bit of time to reflect and I do think I got carried away and was in some danger when I took these shots.

Great Shots on your first try :bow

I do like the shots with some space in front of the cars the best.
You captured the dust & dirt flying very nice.
It would have been cool to get near a curve and catch the cars sliding sideways. I would suggest using a longer lens and try to find a safe location to shoot the curves. When I have watch some of these races on TV they don't always stay on the road.
