Hello,

So, I'm just getting into multiple flash photography. I've been using the Canon 430EX II off-camera with an ST-E2 wireless transmitter for a couple of years for non-studio portraits and such. I also have a 580EXII on the way from B&H later this week, which will become my primary flash, mostly as a slave to the ST-E2.

I anticipate wanting to get a 3rd flash for additional creative elements, like hitting some point of interest with a theatrically-gelled beam via a snoot, grid, etc. I'm thinking about saving a bit of money here and going for a used Sigma 500dg flash for about $130.

Has anyone attempted to add a Sigma or other 3rd party flash as an additional slave into the Canon wireless setup with seamless results? Or do I need to fork out the funds for another Canon Speedlite? My google searches have not yielded any solid answers.

Any insight appreciated!

If you consider a Sigma flash make sure it is both DG and Super. Less than that and you will not get what you want.

I only have Sigma flashes so far but I have researched enough to be fairly confidant that Sigma DG Super flashes will mix pretty well with Canon EX series flashes.

You can get brand new Sigma EF-530 DG Super flashes here for $220USD that should be what you want.
