View Full Version : Need a little help please...My page loads long

You can view my home page here
www.Sean-Patrick.smugmug.com
When my page loads in IE it is longer than when it is loaded in google chrome...
If I am not making myself clear, when I look at other smugmug home pages there is not a bar on the right going up and down. On my home page I have a bar, which you must click on and slide to see the entire page.
Any suggestions to get rid of the bar so my page can be viewed fully?
Thanks,
Sean

I presume you're talking about the vertical scroll bar along the right side of the screen. Your page measures out at about 850 pixels high. If the inside of the browser window is not that tall, the browser will place a scroll bar there. Different browsers have different amounts of other stuff in the browser window (toolbars, menu bars, status bars, etc...) and sometimes use slightly different fonts so they may present the inner browser window slightly differently.
If you want your page to not be as tall, then you can do all the obvious things to make it shorter:
Make a smaller banner (not as tall)
Use smaller fonts in your navbar
Use a shorter height for your slideshow
Use a smaller footer (not as tall)

Thank you, that is what I was trying to explain!
Any idea how to change that in the CSS?
Thanks,

A coupe of ideas. to make it smaller. You can change your font size for your header and your navigation. Look for font-size in your CSS. You are using easy customizer, so you might be able to adjust font sizes in there.
Also If you used all landscape shots in your slide show you could tighten up some of the space underneath.

Sean I don't personally think your page is too long. I would suggest reducing the font size a bit on your banner and on your navbar. The banner because it's just a little too much in your face and the navbar because it's too wide and it wraps if your window isn't really wide.
If you're going to use watermarks, I'd really suggest you make your own custom watermark and reapply that to your existing galleries because it can look so much nicer than the default Smugmug watermark.

Sean I believe there's a tutorial here on dgrin somewhere, but you'd have to search to see if you could find it. Most people use a graphics editor like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to create their custom watermark.

I am searching now. I made two adjustments as suggested, tell me what you think!

Thanks Folks,
All done!!! I may change it, but for now this is it. I may change the opacity, 50% is almost not visible and I am undecided on 100%.
Thanks again for the suggestions, help and link!

By the way how do you feel about the green watermark? I did it in a few different colors, and opacity's. It seems that the green shows up the best in my photos, but is it too much or tacky looking?
Thanks,
Sean
