This post goes along with the other two posts from my trip to Shenandoah (http://www.nps.gov/shen/). Those posts are here (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=13315) and here (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=13349). I put these shots here because they belong here more I guess.

These are a type of personal vindication for me. The story starts back on my first trip to Shenandoah after I started down the photography path. I had been experimenting with the camera the day before and had not set the settings back to anything near normal. I was just inside the park when I saw a deer just walking down the side of the road. I whipped out the camera and popped off a shot just before she ran off. The shot was totally F'ed up. Since then on subsequent trips to the park I haven't seen ANY deer. Well, this day I saw quite a few. Got some ok shots of them walking down the road that I shot hanging out my window. But then I found this gal. She was just hanging out in one of the overlook areas carved out along the side of the road. I still stayed in the truck because she was very comfortable with the truck being very close to her - I didn't know how she'd react if I got out. I spent quite a bit of time following her around as she walked and ate. I had a bit of a giddy feeling - not every day you can be this close to them without them being smashed into the grille of your car.

Anyway - here's a few shots of the pretty girl:

Just beautiful, Phil. I especially like the last one. Nice crisp focus on her face. I like the way she seems to look right at you. Nice blur on the grasses too. :thumb

nice when "god" gifts us with vindication for our screw ups, isn't it. And so nicely you were gifted, too.

And you did so well with your lady deer. Beautiful shots, just lovely.

Interesting how angular, yet sweet, her face is.

lovely,

ginger

Yea, I imagine that she ws thinking something along the lines of "what the hell does that idiot think he's doing?"

Thanks!

:nod Yes, yes it is. True about the face - I half expected her to give me a coy smile or something... Thanks Ginger!

Thanks John. Anywhere else in the world that'd be true for me. That's something that's great about protected areas like this. The animals seem so much more confident. This one was however surprisingly accepting of my presence.

I love it when I can sit in my car and get great shots!

It was surely worth the frustration and the wait to get photos as great as these -- I don't know how you could have done better.

As soon as I open a car door the deer around us will take off. I have to really sneak quietly out of the car -- and the deer are behind not one, but two fences so I've given up until I get a good telephoto eventually.

I know what you mean! I was happy just to be allowed to sit in her presence. To get decent pictures was just icing on the cake.

Thanks for stopping in and for the kind words!
