I've rewritten my customization and cleaned up the code based on all I've learned working through my errors.
In my opinion, my pages are better now and I really only have 1 concern left.
At the page bottom, beneath the footer, I still get some page border image. I may just live with it, but if anyone can see where it's coming from (I've spent all day and I'm pooped)... please, drop me a hint.
Eventually, I'll tackly why the banner image appears perfectly justified with the menubar in IE but not in FF (I'm sure its a width setting variation) but It may just make sense for me to wait till I view in IE 8 (not installed) to see if it goes away or gets worse.
