I've said before that I enjoy old barn photos. I happend across this one outside of Sperryville, VA (http://www.sperryville.net/) on my way to Skyline Drive (http://www.nps.gov/shen/). Sperryville is a very small town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. One of their claims to fame is that it is the hometown to Ben Jones (the actor that played Cooter on The Dukes of Hazzard (http://www.cootersplace.com/)). He actually had a "Cooter's Garage" set up there for many years. He displayed an original "General Lee" car that was used in the series. (It was looking pretty ragged there towards the end.) He just shut it down a year or two ago.

My other barn photos can be found in this gallery (http://philu.smugmug.com/gallery/15728).

Anyway - on to the barn (click the pic for the EXIIF):

I was going to clone out the powerlines but it started to be a real chore and I'm not overly ambitious right now.

Let me know what you think.

*** Edit ***
Here's a slightly different angle with a different crop. Which do you prefer?

*** Edit #2 ***
The above two were done in IR. Here's a color version that I like also (I did remove the power pole and the powerline on the right side in this one):

in a weird sort of way I like the powerlines as they look just as old as the barn.
Basically i like the shot and the use of black and white to add that timeless feel to it.

Very nice shot.:thumb

I think a little less on the top might work more. The sky and clouds look great, but to me they seem a little too much. Slight crop from the top perhaps? I still like it though. Good capture.

Hmmm.... Looking at it this morning, I see what you mean. I've added a slightly different shot in a wider crop.

I prefer the second angle but the processing on the first if that makes any sense...

Yep - makes sense. I was able to squeeze the levels more to get more contrast on the first one. On the second, It started to blow out the clouds to much so I had to back off. I might play with it a bit more.

Thanks. I guess I just have this thing against powerlines. Maybe it's me :dunno

even though I'm not a fan of IR or B&W...

I'd cut some off the top of the clouds too, but I like how those clouds cooperated and aided in your composition.

The first photo emphasizes the "alone" ness of the barn, if that's what you are going after.

Ah, powerlines. I love to hate them. :rofl

Thanks for the kind words.

Cool, maybe we'll make you an IR fan yet... :D It doesn't work for everything, but it can work for some things. It's also one way to use the super-bright part of the midday time.

Thanks Dee

Whew - don't think it's worth 4 clappers, but I appreciate it. Thanks Fred.

Uh-oh, I'm going to have to send that through the Google translator. I guess it sounds like a compliment though - or at least I'll take it that way. :1drink

Hehehe :rofl Thanks!
