How close were you?
In the second shot you really caught the intensity of the kayaker focusing on where he's going. With the water spots, uber-fast shutter speed?

#2 is Great:bow
I think it is important to be able to see the faces in sports shots.
Take Care,

Thanks everyone,
The portrait is nice but to me the other shot really captures the spirit of Class V kayaking.
He appeared for just a split second from that big wave on the left then went back under into the chaos to the right....then appeared again 10 yards downstream like no problem.. the really good guys make it look easy...I am thinking it isn"t..

I like #1 better. It really captures the sport. I like that you included some of the river below the kayaker. Great shot.

Ooooer - those shots are stunning. I love the light - it seems to make the water look like liquid gold.
I agree re the second shot - the focus (pardon the terrible pun!) of the chap comes through brilliantly.
Not sure I could get close to producing shots of this quality!:bow
