A deadly fly in that they can kill other flying insects while in flight.
This one is thinking, man its a long way down.

Closing in we see the eyes and that long antenna in the centre of the forehead that denotes a robber fly.

Stepping in closer again, we see the ocelli in between and on top of the main eyes. DOF has gone out the window :D

A different type of robber fly that was drowning in a bowl of water outside. So out it came. No I didn't give it mouth to mouth. Yuck :wink

Thanks folks, much appreciated.
Our Robber flies are around 8 - 10mm long Brian, a long slender body. :wink I use either a Sony CD-1000 or a Panasonic FZ10 with added 35mm Slr lenses in front. The 2nd and 3rd shots are with an added Canon 100mm.

I just don't know how you guys do it. I get near a bug and they scootch away. If I do get a shot, it's eyes are almost always OOF (mf or af). Guess I just need more practice, LOTS more. Very incredible shots, especially #2:clap. DOF is great enough and the detail really comes out.
I couldn't imagine having that many eyes when having only two is confusing enough for me:D.
Just a latent macroholic here,

LOL Dave, just a couple of stuck pixels :D
Pete, interesting robber fly there. Some of you have totally different colours and markings in your robber flies. Never fails to amaze me. Fine shots Pete :thumb
BF, the 6T, 5T, 4T are all excellent with the FZ's. The zoom really cranks up the ratios when using those. Fine optics :thumb
