Single Column Layout with 640 px wide photos

Greetings. I want to present the photos in a specific Gallery or on
specific Date in descending order in a simple 1 column layout with
each photo 640 px in width, the next photo below it and so on. Is this
possible and if so how? The journal layout does not work for me as there is no much area wasted on the sides and the photo size is much smaller than 640 px. Thanks in advance for any help.

This hack only seems to work in Firefox and not in IExplorer, see http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=27067.:cry

But feel free to try; if you can make it work, let us know, a lot of interested folks out there!!
