Well, I think it is one of them biting ones, but it was sat on the garden fence, occasionally washing itself. The wind kept moving the fence panel but at least the rain had subsided. Still reaonably dull and overcast though, so popped it up to ISO 800 and ran NR afterwards. Used 3 tubes on the Sigma to get in closer.

Made me wonder afterwards too if the vision gets impaired on flies cos if you look at the eyes you can see there is some sort of damage, and low down on it's right eye (left as we see it) there is something actually on the surface...

C&C as always allowed.

Yeah, huh!

Maybe a deer fly!

Got mauled by them once while wading in Badger Springs (Arizona).

I'm in England, and there are no deer anywhere near me, so not one of those...

Got these two as well, but DoF is limited. Does it help Phil?

Thanks Phil.

The colour may be from the Cuprinol surroundings and the ambient light.

:)

Snipe fly eh? Another one to google...

LOvely captures Paul :)
Quite often see flies with eye damage including splits and dents- almost as if they have mid-air prangs.
