Looking to buy my 11 yr old son a P&S camera. Any ideas???? Does anyone think that 125 to 150 bucks would get him into a decent P&S.

My father just picked up a new FujiFilm F40fd on EBay for $150. I am rather enamored with that camera for a simple P&S in that I can get good results with it indoors and out. ISO 800 is actually usable.

If you want a more manual camera with more controls that are similar to the controls on a dSLR, then maybe an older advanced digicam would work.

I still occasionally use my Minolta DiMAGE A2 and, at base ISO especially, it is very pleasing to use and has full manual controls as well as a RAW mode. Add an external flash and it makes a fairly compact system. I fairly often see them for around $200USD.

The earlier A1 (5 MPix) is similar and KEH has them regularly in your price range.

What are your thoughts on the FinePix S1500 ???

Brand new. Very affordable. Not a very wide end in the zoom range. Very nice long range zoom.

I don't see a RAW mode in the specifications. It uses common batteries and cards, always a good idea for a kid's camera.

Be sure to read the customer reactions at Amazon. It appears to be either love or hate. I cannot find any formal reviews or sample pictures.

Take a look at this review.

Based on it, I bought the Panasonic LZ8 for a person who just wants a simple point and shoot and she seems to really like it.

Good luck.

Here is a review of the Fuji.

Seems to be selling for about $200 and it's a bit bigger than a typical point and shoot digicam.
