I was thinking that smugmug could adopt a voting mechanism to have new features (ideas) by the users. And this could even be beyond simply relying on the forums, you could bring it to all the users.
Starbucks uses the same platform to allow customers to think of new flavors and I don't think its a costly solution.
Salesforce.com offers a product called 'ideas', it allows users to post an idea and other users vote on it.
Ideas generates ALL of the new releases that salesforce.com itself uses. Starbucks is taking advantage of it for said item above. I belive that smugmug could do this also.
A link to the ideas area for smugmug could be posted to the control panel for every user to contribute.
