Good Afternoon Folks,
When using my 5D, set to center-weighted metering, it shows up in the EXIF data as unknown metering. Any idea what could be causing this ? Never noticed this on my previous cameras. Just curious. Thank you :thumb
Have a good afternoon :D

What software are you using to display the EXIF? Which version?

Good Afternoon Ziggy & Thanks for getting back to me :thumb
When I open the picture either in Windows Picture & Fax Viewer (Windows XP SP2) or PS(CS2), the EXIF shows unknown metering. It doesn't appear to effect the camera, but I was just curious why it doesn't show center-weighted. Thanks again.
Have a good afternoon :D

Jim, it looks you're working with a rather outdated s/w, that may be a reason of the issue (albeit there is no guarantee for that)
XP being in SP3 for quite some time, and PS is in its CS4 stage...

Ok, I made a mistake referencing my XP. It is SP3, and not SP2, as I thought :dunno Thanks for bringing that to my attention :thumb If software versions made the case for incorrect information, then I would think there would be additional errors through out the EXIF, but only when I use center-weighted metering. Everything else appears fine. Thanks again :thumb

Jim,

Try using Irfanview and see if the EXIF is correct using that software.

Good Afternoon Ziggy and Thank You for the link :thumb
I did download Irfanview, and it had the same information under EXif Info/EXIF Tag/MeteringMode, Unknown. It look's like a camera issue, with no visual problems. Interesting. Thanks again :thumb
Have a good evening :D

Jim,

If you have the latest firmware installed I would suggest reporting this to Canon. It's just odd is all.

Hey Ziggy,
Already did that, Thanks :thumb
I'll let you know what the good folks at Canon have to say when I get a response :wink
Thanks again and have a good evening :D

Does it do the same in Canon's DPP's? If so, it may be a reporting issue with the camera to the image. If not, may be a software compaitibility issue with the third party software perhaps?

Morning Folks,
I received a reply from Canon last night. Here is what they said:
We appreciate your continued correspondence regarding your EOS 5D.
We are sorry to hear that the EXIF data says Unknown Metering for the
EXIF data. This is a strange issue indeed and I would imagine this has
something to do with the internal electronics. We recommend that you
send this into the Factory so we can evaluate this issue for you.
The rest of the information was standard shipping procedures.
So, at this point in time, I'm not going to send it in, since there doesn't appear to be an issue with it. I was curious more then anything about it.
Thanks to all who offered suggestions :thumb
Have a good day folks :D
