I previously suggested a very cheap and highly portable flash bouncer for the built-in flashes (http://nik.smugmug.com/gallery/125951).

Since that time I acquired external flash (Sony HVL-F32X)and was using it with Lumiquest Promax 20-80 system. It does a nice job, but it's kinda expensive and is a royal pain to attach to the flash.

Recently I read a lot about LightSphere and even get a chance to see one (Thanks, David!).

I liked the LS idea a lot, but it seemed a bit expensive (for a piece of a translucent plastic) and very non-portable.

So my brain started to work...:-)

Costs next to nothing to produce, mere minutes to make,

Highly portable design:

Installs in seconds:

Improves lighting a lot:

You can add a piece of aluminum foil to the back plane next to the velcro pieces to improve the reflection.

Let me know if you like it!

And I bet the shots look really different if you have a CD or two in the case at the same time!
