Quantaray (Sunpak) QF30 Flash Questions

I stopped in a local Ritz store that happened to be going out of business. Tough times. Of course, all the "good stuff" was already long gone, but they had one Quantaray QF30 flash for Nikon left. I was a little miss led thinking I could use it off camera in a slave mode setup, but for $20 out the door I can't complain too loudly. I did a little research once I got it home, it was an impulse buy, and saw some things on the interweb stating that the voltage that the flash kicked back to the camera was too high and could damage things. Is there any truth to this, or is my D80 safe? Thanks!

I'm not familiar with that model. If you have a digital VOM you can use the instructions at this site to check the flash trigger voltage:

You can also use a device to regulate the trigger voltage to safe levels using a Wein Safe-Sync:

I use a Safe-Sync with a number of older flashes to protect my cameras.

Thanks for the info Ziggy. I didn't see my particular flash on the first page you posted. It's kind of ironic that the trigger voltage levelizer (<--made that up on the spot) is almost 3 times as much as the "bargain" flash. Such is my luck. :dunno
