Category Sections

I find that for categories or sub-categories that have a lot of galleries, I'd like the ability to define sections in the category. I don't really want another level of categories/sub-categories because there aren't too many thumbs to fit on the screen (when I use stretchy categories) and I don't really want more levels, but I could use some visual separations between different groups of gallery thumbs.

Here's a real world example. The first image is how I do it today with a stretchy sub-category. The second image is how I'd like to be able to present it:

Here's another example of what I'd like to be able to do with category sections (note the subsections by year). It is waaaaay easier to find what you want when ordganized this way than the flat list of galleries that Smugmug presents by default. And, I think this section UI is way better than adding an extra level of sub-categorization and an extra navigation step.

I implemented this on one of my sites via post processing javascript. One can see how it looks here (http://friend.smugmug.com/Sports) and here (http://friend.smugmug.com/School). Sure would be nice to have this as a built-in option for those who can't write their own JS.
