For the last few years we have had a special visitor to our town who has affectionately been named HENRY, because he was first noted on the water front at Point Henry :D
Henry just turns up when he wants, and he decides which beach he will choose, and where he will stay for a few days........this week he decided he was coming to TOWN whoooooohoooo :clap :clap so he parked himself up on the boat ramp at the Geelong Yacht Club, right next to two small Dingys and there he sits where ever he wants of course :rofl
Now is this one gorgeous face or what :rofl ......enjoy....... Skippy (Australia)

Nice shot!:thumb I like the low angle of the shot and the DOF. Henry looks like he's giving you a wink, the big flirt! As far as cute is concerned, my wife says he's no Mel Gibson ...

When they want to! And they are heavy, and they do BITE! I've never seen them go after people, mostly it's the males fighting off interlopers on "their" territory. (Protecting "their" females) But he's all alone... I'm really surprised he came after you.
What a great movie clip that would have made :rofl :rofl :rofl
Anyway, a great portrait of Henry indeed!

Great shot Skippy :thumb :thumb :thumb I'm surprised you didn't try to macro him.....LOL :rofl
I loved your story about him opening his eye, once you got close, and him getting up and chasing you. That would definitely win a prize on the Funniest Home Video show :lol
You are right about their size :uhoh One of those bad boys could flatten you like a pancake :huh Glad you were fast on your feet....lol

Your not wrong Steve ....... Henry would easy weight a couple of ton, he is not little, those two boats up on the ramp he was laying next to were the same length as he was....he'd squish me easily, I'm only a shorty, he'd drop me with one flipper tied behind his back for sure :lol

The last time Henry was in town the Wild Life people had to set up 24hr protection for him, this time because of where he is people can't really get to him to annoy him........he has a beautiful face, they always remind me of puppy dog faces......thanks for looking Ginger........ Skippy (Australia)

I don't think you can take a bad picture of a great face, the seal is in excellent condition, I enjoy seeing him each time he comes to visit.
Hopefully next time he visits I will have a much bigger lens so I don't have to get too close to him :rofl I mean a girl can only run so far will a backpack and camera gear hanging around her neck ya know :lol4 Skippy (Australia)

Wow! Obvious Canon closeup, Skippy. Your 20D sure does an awesome job.
You must be ecstatic about the camera. That kind of dSLR shooting sure leaves us prosumers sitting in the back seats of the theatre. :wink But who'se complaining...I am more than comfortable just looking at 'pro' shots like yours.
Keep posting, Skippy...I know everyone, like myself, is always on the lookout for your postings from the 20D.

He was a big ole boy.......... I can see why all the girl seals go for him, how could ya not love that face hu :lust
I see now why people shoot in RAW...... I was always shooting in JPG, but now I shoot in RAW, it does give you more room to fix things during processing.
Thanks for looking........... Skippy (Australia)

He was half asleep, doing that one eye open thing, then he'd lay back down, then you'd see one eye open to see what I was up to , till I obviously annoyed him enough for him to take off after me :D
Usually you cant get close to him at all because the Wild Life people usually set up a 24 hour watch over him to make sure no-one annoys or hurts him.
Thanks for the comment......... Skippy (Australia)

I love my Canon 20D and all the lenses I have thus far :clap
There is so much to learn Bob, but I feel I have far more keepers with this gear :D
I'm really looking forward to my trip to USA in another 7-8 weeks time.
Hope to come home with a mess of images that will make me happy :rofl

Excellent shot :clap . Perfect.
Henry has such a nice face, I think anyone would be hard pressed to not get a good shot of him, I was just fortunately enough that a member let me into the Yacht Club so I could actually see his face.
Henry tends to lay in such a way that 99% of the public would have been only able to view him from the back.....until he decided to turn around that is :D
Glad you liked the shot.........I just love his face :D Skippy (Australia)

Henry is in such excellent condition, the Wild Life folks are not really sure why he keeps coming back to the beach areas around Geelong, he never appears to be ill, maybe he likes the peace and quiet from all those female seals :dunno :D
