I just finished an event shoot with a 2nd shooter, (Rich Cirminello), and the idea was to upload minimally processed jpg files as proofs and replace them as the orders came in. We would each process, and replace our own images per the order, but unless I grant full, total access to my account this can't be done. Our short term work around is to have him send the print ready files to me and I will replace them.

For some assistants, like Rich, I have confidence in his computer skills, and honesty that I can, if necessary, give him my password, but for future events, and assistants I would like to be able to set the access.

Here was his e-mail to me:

"Here's an idea/feature request for the folks a SmugMug:
allow the main account holder (you, in this case) to set 'privileges' for assistants. In other words, you should be able to restrict certain assistant accounts to uploading only, or be able to give them full control over galleries. Like the other aspects of the site, these privileges could be set from a control panel. "

I'm working on such project. ETA this year. :deal
First phase will be upload only, then I'll see how it goes...
PS
However, I don't see you'll be using it, Sam, since I don't normally provide phone support ;-)

Andy, how do you log in as assistant?
Do you use the same email as the primary account and this different password?
I tried, but couldn't get in:-(

BTW, Sam, while this assistant password is a great news (seriously), my solution will allow for much finer grain, as "only upload rights to album XXXX_YYY", or "album creation, upload and arrange right for category ZZZ".

Nik - first set an Assistant Password in control panel, settings tab. Then the assistant logs on with either your email addy and the assistant pwd, or use the nickname and the assistant password.

Thank you! :thumb
FWIW I tried email + assitant password - didn't work :dunno
I'll try nickname instead of email...
EDIT:
nickname + assistant worked! Yay!

So, as the wording says, it's pretty much full access (including private galleries and hidden images), just without access to admin-only settings and pro sales.
Good to know, thank you Andy!

I will try to clarify this. I have set up an assistant password. No problem for the assistant to get into the site and uploading images.

The problem, (for me) is that the assistant does not have the necessary authority to "replace photos".

So the feature request is to provide tools for the SmugMug site owner to choose what level of authorization each assistant can have.

I hope that helps.

As for Nicolai's comment about no phone support.....WOW......you have a good memory!

Yes I am reluctant to to business with a company that doesn't have phone support, but I have to say the support from the SmugMug hero's is fantastic.

They get my my vote!
