Down at the pier

Trying to get a start at some night photos. I took the below at Huntington Beach pier (Ca.) starting about 30 mins before total sundown. In the last shot, why am I getting star wars off the lights! I see they are somewhat blown out. Is the star affect from not having a polarizer? Or my lense was getting foggy from the ocean?

I don't have a clue about the star wars effect, but I like your #2 the best of the bunch. The B&W treatment seems appropriate here and I like your comp. What exposure did you use?

I think the star effect is common in night exposures with point lights. It can be controlled by apeture. The smaller the apeture, the more pronounced the effect. So, if you open it up, and take a shorter exposure, you might lessen the effect. Also, I believe the patern and intensity of the star is affected by the appeture blade design. So, a different lens (with a differnt number of blades) will produce differnet results.

Thanks! #2 was shot at ISO 200, F22, @ 4 Seconds... and I think I got wet on that one. :rofl
