ok so i have 2 nikon sb600 speedlights, been playing around with them off camera flash
so question is, i just need a basic setup for tripod, but i dont know what to get at all
i want to be able to mount the speedlight on a tripod, but also have the option somewhere on the mount to put a umbrella rod holder

can anyone link the items i would need to purchase

the speedlight comes with a mount just to put it on a tripod, but doesnt have option to put a umbrella on it,
i have watched a few videos and seen where the speedlight looked to be mounted on a ball type mount and was able to be moved in all kinds of directions, and had a slot for umbrella rod, but i dont even have a clue what its called or where to get it
thanks

There are many kinds of flash umbrella brackets or adapters out there. Read about them here: http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/03/lighting-101-umbrella-adapters.html

You can purchase quality ones at B&H, Adorama, Amazon and most other quality vendors. And here are a couple of eBay links showing you how prices (and quality) can vary. If you do not get name brand, such as Bogen/Manfroto, etc., you just might be making a re-purchase—there's nothing worse than the sound of an expensive flash hitting the floor (unless its the sound of that nice, new $1699 lens crashing idown concrete stairs):

I got the Adorama one for $16 bucks... it will mount to your tripod or light stand and then you can put your SB600 on it using the included cold shoe mount or by screwing the Nikon AS-19 black plastic foot into the top of the umbrella bracket (after removing the silver cold shoe mount).

Im not sure if you needed stands or not but Mpex offers a kit for strobist that has everything you need for a flash setup. here is the link Strobist lighting kit (http://www.mpex.com/page.htm?PG=STROBIST1XKITS)

If you don't need everything you can also order the items separately dropping the cost.
