Livin' large at the Karachi Outpost

I just got my new Crumpler Karachi Outpost (formerly the Brian's Hot Tub), and all I can say is: WOW!! That's a hell of a bag! Even with my laptop and all photo gear..I've still got a ton of room. Those 140g Cherry Ripes fit great in there too....

If anyone's looking for one of these, I found a great seller on ebay that has most of the Crumpler models in stock for very good prices. I paid $160 for the KO. That was the best price I found on the net among those that had them in stock.

I ordered the KO and Whickey Cox but the Whicky Cox is too small for all of my gear. The KO hasn't arrived yet but I hope it's more room and enough for two camera bodies. The Whicky was just too light was my small amount of gear.

Does your KO also have the tripod strap on the back? I was worried that Crumpler discontinued the tripod strap from their stock photos but glad it was included on production packs.

The bag front and back...yes there is a tripod strap on the front of the bag:

It opens from the back. There's no way this bag comes open when you're wearing it. The laptop compartment is more than adequate for a 17" laptop. There's a zippered "screen door" over the camera compartment to keep things in:

Cool thing here...both the camera compartment and laptop sleeve are removable from the bag. Also, every piece of the camera compartment is removable. You can use all or none or somewhere in between:

Even the velcro straps that hold bodies and lenses in are removable. The compartment is also deep enough to allow a small telephoto (75-300 pictured) to stand.

The padding on this thing is outrageous! The straps are padded a good half-inch, while the back padding is at least an inch. Very comfortable.

BTW is that a Dell 600M? Just trying to get an idea of the overall size.

It's a D600, which is the Latitude version of the Inspiron 600M

Just got the KO today and took some pictures while I still had the WC bag.

This first picture just compares the sizes.

Here the 10D/grip is sitting in the Whickey and Cox bag. Notice that the top prism doesn't clear the padding. I tested this with my notebook and the camera was actually resting the flash shoe aganist my computer!

I'm going to test out the Karachi Outpost this weekend. My only complaint is it's a very big bag but nothing bad, just not used to the size.

Seeing it now laid out like that, I'm glad I got the KO. I was going to get the Whickey and Cox or Customary Barge (Farmers Double), but I wasn't sure of the W&Cs size and I didn't like the size of the COs camera compartment.
