Is this a GBH?

Hi All... I'm just beginning to get involved with nature and wildlife so I have limited knowledge of bird species. This guy was shot on a small pond outside my Mother's apartment complex here in Kalamazoo. I spotted him/her one day last week and then he/she disappeared and I have been waiting every day since and was rewarded for my patience this morning. :clap

Images were a little soft so I USM'd them a little — what do you all think? :dunno
