I have a Flash slide show on my home page. What does a viewer, who has no Flash player installed, see? Does he/she see the first image or nothing at all from the Flash show?

If the viewer of your site does not have flash player installed they won't see anything. They will however get a message stating "This page requires Flash Player. Please click here to download" or something like that. Flash player is free and all they have to do is download it, in order to see your slide show. If they opt not to download, they just won't see that section of your site.

I guess you could always put a static image behind the slideshow so if they don't get the slideshow, they can see something at least...
I haven't done exactly this, but I have put a static image above my slideshow for IE6 rather than wade through getting the transparency etc all working on ie6.
Only about 5% of my pageviews come from ie6 now so I don't really care about the eye candy so long as functionality is there.
Also I noticed recently that only about 1% of my pageviews are on a screen less than 1024*768.
