1st ever E-shoot: c&c welcome

A couple of weeks ago I did my first e-shoot with this great couple. He proposed to her on a beach on the shores of the Bay of Fundy so it seemed only appropriate to return to the scene for the shoot. What fun they were to work with.

1 and 4 are my favorites. 3 could have benefited from a less centered couple, I believe. 2 is a bit soft and the diamond is pretty blown out. Let's see some more.

This is where a handheld incident exposure meter would have benefited you.....especially on that ring shot.
If you do not want to get a meter, then bracket both forwards and backwards from what the in-camera reflected meter states so you can get a corrrect exposure all the time. Also do not shoot straight down on hands with rings, looks kinda like a crab fight for the shinny thingy......using the rock as a bg he should of gracefully held her hand in the semi cupped position as if he were about to kiss it (her hand pointing straight at him with her fingers slightly cupped down and his cupped up holding her hand)......I can see it just not coming out great probably.....my fingers do not always say it as my mind sees it.......and a white umbrella as diffused shade would have worked great also....

I really like what you've done here, with poses and all and I am very jealous of the location....all I have are drab rolling prairie and dingy looking lakes........

Thank you very much everyone for your suggestions. Art - a light meter is on my current wish list :)

I was lucky that day as it was high overcast as opposed to bright sunshine (or pouring rain) and I was able to get the couple to the beach before 9 a.m.

I AM lucky. This area of Canada has spectacular scenery, magnificent beaches and unique places to use for location shots. On my own property (a small farm) I have ponds, a river and a real covered bridge.

The downside of location shoots is the dependence on the weather. The other day another photographer was using the covered bridge for some wedding shots. We had gale force winds and the poor bride's hair was standing on end. At one point the train of her gown flew up over her head completely. I doubt she was happy. I think I would have nixed that location shot if it had been me.
