These were shot with a D700 and the sigma 50-500. I wasn't as happy with the longer shots. In the future, I think I'll leave it at home for snowboard stuff and stick with the 70-200 on the D300 or D700.

1. 50-500 at 500mm. You can see some loss of IQ around the face.

2. Another 500mm shot

3. Images seemd to clean up at the shorter focal length. (195mm)

4. 110mm

5. 116mm

All images shot in Aperture priority, wide open (4-6.3), ISO 500, +1ev, WB corrected in Capture NX2 with contrast, sharpening, and crop.

let me know if these are too be to be practical on the forum.

Great shots :thumb

One the first shot, the focus is in front of the face. The blue netting near the bottom right, I can almost read those labels. Front boot is in focus also. Looks like that's why the face is a little soft.

I shot around 200 images. Everyone on the long end seemd to have the same issue, while things were fine on the shorter end.
