Hello,:dunno

I am new here to DG and smugmug. I had my first client shoot and now I am very confused with what size to upload the photos to give the client the best options.. I have a digital rebel XTi EOS 400D 10 megapixel and I set it to fine high resolution... I am assuming that is best all the time. I shoot in Raw and then save a tiff version and one jpeg version to upload to smugmug. The confusion is this:

I uploaded a few photos to the client's smugmug gallery, then to test it out, I went to buy this print.. I am assuming the resolution is high enough for the larger sizes at these settings

photo dimensions 3888x2592 at 3.64 MB

however, am I going to have high crop requirements for smaller sizes? if I upload at such a high resolution?

what photo dimensions does everyone else use for their client's galleries to give them the best of all print worlds?

also, I eventually want to get into selling larger prints for the wall.. is the camera I have good enough for this? or should I not waste my time until I can upgrade to a higher mega pixel camera..? is there a way to test your images on your computer to know whether or not they will suffer pixel degradation at different print sizes?

thanks for the support.. so far everyone has been wonderful here at DG... do you have to have a smugmug account to join DG and enter contests and participate? The reason I ask, is because I am trying to get some photographer friends of mine to join...

Thanks Everyone..
Katrina

Upload as high as resolution as possible. The photo printers are smart, and can rescale the picture if you have too many pixels for them to print (in fact, they probably have a better resizing algorithm than you do), but they can't invent new pixels if you upload at too low a resolution.

http://www.smugmug.com/help/print-quality discusses this issue at some depth

Got it.!!!!

Thank you so much.... I remember reading in a book somewhere that you can compress bicubic etc... in photoshop.. but now I will not worry since I am going to funnel all of my photography through smugmug... yet another benefit of being a mugger.. again.. thank you, what a relief..:rofl
