I'm heading to Atlanta for a week next week. Can anyone recommend some good places to get out and snap some shots?

I'm actually going to be at the Ritz there on Peachtree. That makes things easy! Isn't that were CNN is located?

There are two Ritz Carton Hotels in Atlanta, both on Peachtree. The downtown one is much closer to CNN, probably a 10 minute walk. The other one is in Buckhead about a 15-20 minute drive or longer with traffic.
The park near CNN is a good place to get some fun shots with the fountains.

I was pulling your leg... every other street in Atlanta seems to be named Peachtree. I haven't been there in ages. I hope you get some good advice. Have a great trip.

Never ask Angelo for directions if lost.

Yup, like Patch said.... Centennial Olympic Park is a good place to get people shots. It borders CNN Center. I almost always come away with some kind of keeper, especially if it's warm and kids are playing in the fountain.
More people shots can be had at Piedmont Park. (http://www.piedmontpark.org/visit/park_map.html) And if you get there early in the morning, you can get a city skyline lit by the rising sun.
If you're at the downtown Ritz, you'll be close to the Fox Theater (http://www.foxtheatre.org/directions.htm) which has a marquee in lights. I've never pulled off a good shot of it, but I know it can be done. The interior is really amazing, but I'm not sure if they'd let you in with a tripod etc. Probably not, but I've never asked.
If you're at the Buckhead Ritz, you're within walking distance of the Buckhead bar scene, which encompasses a pretty small area across the street from the ESPN Zone (http://espn.go.com/espninc/zone/s/atldirections.html) and might make for good Friday/Saturday night partying shots. Again, I've tried but not had a keeper yet.

Thanks for the suggestions wxwax!
I'll be staying at the Ritz Buckhead I confirmed, so I'll try out some of your suggestions wxwax. I'm going to try and get as much scenery in as my work schedule will allow.
I may try and catch a Braves game that Saturday when I get there. I thought I was in luck when I saw they were playing the TX Rangers all that week, but they're away games. :wxwax

That would cover most of the streets in Atlanta...:rofl
I think wxwax has a good list. Don't forget to eat at the Varsity..mmmm mmmm grease.
There should also be some horse drawn carriages around in the early evening.
I end up at Centennial Park in the heat of the day to catch the children running through the water when the sidewalk fountains are working. Underground would also make a good place to shoot and the Cocacola factory is just outside.
