Not familiar... but find it interesting that this society has been around since 1861 in one form or another. However, it looks like they only have 10 members. I only see 10 albums (http://www.edinburghphotographicsociety.co.uk/gallery.html) by their members. :scratch

Hi Seymore!

I think what they mean is

EPS Gallery updated 6/1/05 - 10 New Pages of Members' Photographs (http://www.edinburghphotographicsociety.co.uk/gallery.html)

'New Pages' as of January 2005.

Has anyone ever tried to enter an international exhibition? Can anything worthwhile come of it?

This link is to a photographic competition in Ireland. The prize money is €3,000 for the international winner. It would be nice to see a dgrinner win :thumb .

I'm working nights this week so I will be at the match but going straight to work afterwards :uhoh , it will be a tough match, you really surprised us in Tel a Viv (spelling?).

We look to have a full strength squad and the atmosphere will be electric, we haven't had a home competitive match in a while, lots of friendlies but they aren't the same.

I won't get any pics, the crowds are too big to bring the 20d and it is under floodlights so the little p&s I have can't get good photos. I presume it will be live on tv in Israel?

I will keep an eye on that site and when I see this years competition advertised I will post. I do think that a dgrinner could win.

Btw, as I posted, I really enjoyed your pics of Jerusalem.

Seamus.

Shay, thanks for commenting on the Jerusalem photos!

This morning I sent 3 shots for printing ~35x50cm for the Edinburgh exhibition, one of them, of those recent Jerusalem shots;

"Plea" too, because I like it and Shay Stephans promised me it has potenial to make thousands of dollars :lol3 Shay? You still there? ...

And one more I can't post here because I'll get kicked in the butt :nono

Yes, the game will be broadcast live here. If it wasn't there could be a civil uprising :rofl
Truth is, I'm not too hopefull. In Tel-Aviv we got lucky. Although I hear our team is training in high spirits over there but what else could they say? :dunno

Good luck to all of us!

Plea is your best shot imho, it should do well.

The game on Saturday is going to be a cracker:clap , the atmosphere is completely different for a competitive match. I won't make any predictions about the result because I think it will be a really close match. My fingernails will be gone by saturday night.

Shay,

Did you enjoy the game? 5 goals in one game is pretty cool!

As posted around June, I sent three prints to the exhibition committee. Printing, mailing, submission cost and return postage were about $100. But I was hopeful.

When I got their polite rejection mail I was angry - how could they reject my beautiful prints?!

But, seeing the results HERE (http://www.edinburghphotographicsociety.co.uk/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=64), for the most part, I humbly understand their judgment.

A few shots you must see:

Michal Just came across this thread- Bad luck not getting in to the Edinburgh International this year- hopefully we'll see more of your work next year? (BTW, I am not involved in the judging in any way!). With over 3000 entries it is always a gamble, but that is true of most Internationals. At least all our acceptances are displayed publically, unlike some Internationals.

The Society has around 250 members, we just don't have galleries up for more than a handful who have contributed. The new website means they can register and upload themselves, which is helping.

All the best, Tom Gardner, Edinburgh Ph. Soc.

Hi Tom! Welcome to dgrin! and thanks for your words of consolation!

Seeing the photos accepted and those receiving recognition, I don't regard it as the result of a 'gamble'. They were excellent calls by the judges.
