View Full Version : HD Video only at the 'Pro' Level

I’ve been a Pro user for about 3 months now. My perspective is that of a home user looking to share photos with friends and family.

Im currently on the pro level, but Im not sure what aspects of it I use that are worth the $90 more then ‘Power’. I really only selected that level for the HD video capability (which is ok, but not great, with just MP4 on a computer screen). The ‘assistant password’ is nice for families as well, let the kids upload but not wreck your albums. But all the e-commerce stuff, which I suspect is the major driver behind the price differential, is ‘wasted’ on home users.

Its worth noting that many other sites such as Flickr offer HD video now, as well as other critical aspects of Smugmug (original files, unlimited storage, etc), and do so at a far cheaper rate for the home user (Smugmug Pro is 6 times the price of Flickr). Yes there are bits and bobs that are different (10 min on Smugmug, 2 on Flickr etc), but $125 worth?

Im not trying to be a jerk here, Im just saying, having HD video ONLY at the top level, and ONLY if you get all the E-commerce stuff, is pretty wasteful for the home user.

Two peas in a pod, you and I are.

You have some really good points here, lots of people are going to want HD video that wont need e-commerce stuff.
