I get a daily email, "A Word a Day" from wordsmith.org.

Today's word: Gamut.

gamut (GAM-uht) noun

The complete range of something.

[From Medieval Latin, contraction of gamma ut, from gamma (third letter
of the Greek alphabet), used to represent the lowest tone + ut, from the
names of the notes ut, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si (ut and si later changed
to do and ti). Gamma + ut contracted to gamut and the meaning expanded
to denote all notes. The names ut, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si are derived
from the initial syllables of a Latin hymn.]

Yeah. I could watch that Visual Thesaurus all day. It is one of the coolest things on the internet.

And I enjoy learning about a new word every day, too.

I did, thanks. I love to read about those spelling bees. My son represented his school at a district-level bee (a far cry from the nationals), and I gotta tell you, it was nerve-wracking.

Funny, english is such an odd language--they'd never have spelling bees in spanish!
