1st post on Digital Grin - I thought I'd show you some shots of where I like to spend my spare time (you can usually find me running up and down these hills, but on Sunday I went a little slower and took my 717 for company).

This is 3/4 of the way into the first day of the Pennine Way (if you're travelling south to north). It's on top of the Snake Pass in Derbyshire, looking towards the Bleaklow moors.

This one's taken just off the main footpath, overlooking the town of Glossop (where I live). The path climbing up on the left of the valley is a regular route of mine for running up on to the tops.

The weather was great on Sunday, but it soon turns cold, wet and potentially dangerous up here. On the top of the moors, I came across a stark reminder:

This is part of the wreckage of a B-59 Superfortress that came down in bad weather on November 3rd, 1948. There are many more crash sites on these moors, although thankfully not recent.

Thanks for looking - I feel lucky to live here and be able to get out in this countryside; and I'm a great one for showing it off when I can!

Cheers,

Welcome! Interesting shots (pretty also). The "moors" have always had a mythical quality in books and stories. It's interesting to see the photos.
