I don't watch much 60 minutes but Andy Rooney's commentary this week
was right on. Paraphrasing, he said that it would be a great day when
remembering soldiers who've died in time of war was replaced by ways
to solve disputes without war.
Until that day comes, let us not forget those soldiers who've fought for our
country and come home and especially, those who've fought and whose
status is unknown.

lets not forget those that have served ,and our country! get behind your flagHi you all,
For non-Americans Memorial day was started in 1868 to memoralize soldiers who died during our Civil War. Our Southern states remembered their fallen soldiers on their own days. It did not become a National holdiay for us until after WW1 when it was changed to acknowledge our fallen soldiers from all our wars.
I'm going to move this thread after throwing in a few pics

The Quest Unending by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Joseph M Martin
from the poem Ulysses
Tho' much is taken, much abides;
and tho' We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven,
that which we are, we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Memorial Day from the south, South Carolina
Confederate Memorial Day is not as widely celebrated,
but it is still a strong presence. This is America's Memorial Day.
Dirge for Two Veterans...............Walt Whitman
The moon gives you light,
And the bugles and the drums give you music,
And my heart, O my soldiers, my veterans,
My heart gives you love.
(That is the last stanza)
