Unfortunately I didn't realise that my husband had switched the exposure compensation to +1.3 just before he gave me the camera. :cry I realised just after taking this photo, but despite me asking really nicely the geese weren't going to perform again. So any tips on how to compensate for drastically overexposing the image?

Well, it doesn't look terribly overexposed to me; did you shoot in JPEG? If so, in PS you can use a multiply blending mode, or you can try burning the brighter spots. If you shot in RAW, you should be able to compensate with the EV or curves.

I'm sure many folks who are more knowledgable will have a trick, but I think it's a great shot. Scott Kelby has a great trick for faking a fill flash on an underexposed subject, you could probably reverse it here.

Glad to hear it doesn't look too bad. I love the shot so want to make it as good as possible, but my post-processing skills are very limited. The original shot is below, the image above is the best I was able to manage. Unfortunately it was only shot in JPEG not RAW.

I really think you've done a great job here :thumb

In Jpeg there's only so much you can recover :cry
