View Full Version : Display Same Images in Multiple Galleries

The entire "Multiple Galleries" option is a bit misleading. I want to have a gallery of "Best Of" content and within that have images that are already on my smugmug site displayed under that as well as their original gallery.

I don't wish to move the images away from their original galleries.

Is this possible to do or do I need to upload the content again?

I do it by adding the keyword "best" to the photos that I want in my "best of" gallery, and then linking to
http://sitename.smugmug.com/keyword/best

How did you go about linking people to these on your smugmug site then? I wanted to stay consistent and use the gallery layout like the rest. :dunno

Will this work for photos that are in protected galleries?? I would have thought not??

I link to them as a link from my navbar, the same as for the rest of my site.

You're right, it won't work for password-protected images, or for images in unlisted galleries. You'll have to host a second copy of those images. (However, if an image needs to be in a password-protected gallery, should you really be using it in your portfolio?)

Hmm this pretty much dissapoints me and I can't display my work in more than one area at the same time without having to add content twice or more.

I've been researching this as well. What I've been doing is using the Tools | Make a Copy function for each photo in a given gallery I want to copy. If I'm copying all to a single gallery, I then use Tools | Move to Gallery, and select the SECOND image (since that is the one that the copy created) of all the ones I copied and move them.

If I'm copying to multiple galleries (e.g., Photo X should go to Gallery 1 and 2), I make two copies of it (so there are a total of three in the current gallery), go to Tools | Move to Multiple Galleries, keep the first one as-is and move the second and subsequent ones.

(note that I always sort by filename so the above may be different if you have a different sort; for me the new file always seems to appear after the old one)

I can't promise this works 100% but it does seem to work. My big fear is inadvertantly breaking an external link if I move the wrong file...

A "Copy to Gallery" tool would make this whole problem go away... --Erik
