I'll be getting my first photographic printer soon, an Epson 2880. I'm looking forward to making my own prints, primarily B&W landscapes, but have to admit I'm a bit confused over all the paper choices. Are there any general guidelines on when to use matte vs. glossy, or does it simply come down to a matter of preference. What about luster, is this just a fancy name for semi gloss or is there a difference. Can anyone can point me towards some online printing tutorials.

Luster is AWESOME! Pearl is kind of another name for luster, but with a little bit finer grain on the paper. It's not grain like you would think of in terms of film grain, or noise. I don't know how to explain it. And I think that pearl is like the film/darkroom equivalent of luster paper. I GREATLY prefer Luster over matte or glossy. Metallic is also an AWESOME choice.
